Members of the Arcata business community reject recent issue of North Coast Journal

Members of the Arcata business community, specifically the mainstreet project and those affiliated with the Jacoby Storehouse, have decided that the most recent issue of the Northcoast Journal was just too much. The Journals cover shows a collage of Marijuana and H.S.U. signage that some felt was a big mistake considering the fact that this is orientation week for students. Largest Marijuana Bust in Humboldt County History

On Monday, 08-06-2007 through Thursday, 08-09-2007 the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office eradicated the largest marijuana garden site in the history of Humboldt County. The marijuana garden sites were located in the Bear Creek drainage off United States Forest Service Route 1. This area is located approximately thirty-four miles south of Berry Summit off State Highway 299. The garden sites were located on Green Diamond Timber Company property and United States Forest Service property. Officers eradicated 134,082 marijuana plants that ranged in size from 1 foot to 3 feet in height. Officers located evidence in the garden sites that linked these marijuana gardens to a Mexican Drug Trafficking Organization. No suspects were located in the area of the gardens. At harvest time these marijuana plants would have a street value of approximately $469 million. C.A.M.P, United States Forest Service, Humboldt County Drug Task Force, Eureka Police Department, and the United States Coast Guard assisted the Sheriff’s Office in this eradication effort. This case is still under investigation.

Hilarious marijuana bust courtesy of Orange County

This article was found in the Willits News from friday, July 27th, 2007

Casey Paul Brightwell, 27, of Huntington Beach was headed north on Highway 101 when he was stopped by a Mendocino County Sheriff for speeding. During police questioning, Brightwell confessed to the officer that his friends in Orange County had told him how easy it was to buy marijuana in Mendocino County and then sell it for a profit in Southern California. After hearing Brightwell's story, officer Jason Cox searched Brightwell's vehicle and found $61,000, a vacuum sealer and other materials used for packaging marijuana for sale. Brightwell was arrested for an unsuccessful attempt to commit a crime and attempting to transport marijuana. All of Brightwell's cash was siezed.

Reggae Rising was awesome!

The 1st annual reggae rising festival was huge! Despite the controversy and the late start, People's Productions put on a hell of a show. I hadn't attended Reggae since a few years ago and was pretty shocked at the changes. A lot of thugs at this years Reggae. I couldn't keep count of how many little thugs were wearing bandannas over their faces like they were some kind of post-modern Humboldt bandito. Some people thought that these kids were wearing the bandannas to keep the dust out of their face but I am pretty sure it was just a sign of Reggae's ever-changing audience. Seems like the crowd gets younger and younger, less and less
middle-aged hippies and more materialistic, urban youth. Despite the little thugs, the artists were great.
Saturday night I saw a mysterious man hawking his wares from a dark corner of the vendor's area of the festival. It turned out to be Ed Rosenthal selling his new pest control product, Zero Tolerance, as well as several of his books. I have never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Rosenthal so naturally I started flipping out. I dragged my girlfriend towards the table and quickly purchased a copy of Ed's Big Book of Buds 3. He was very nice, signed a copy of the book and told me that he would be sure to take a look at my website, humboldtgrow.com.
The Pacific Hydro booth was always rockin' throughout the festival. The Blaze 1 crew and Mendo Mate were some of the livelier places to check out between sets.
Its unfortunate that Reggae Rising is not affiliated with the mateel community center. It was obvious by the turnout that this reggae festival was bigger than any one organization.
